Innovative control panel for SBB toilets: technologically advanced and geared towards the future

After 30 years, SBB was faced with the task of modernizing the WC facilities in its IC coaches. The control panel for light, toilet flushing, water, soap and hand dryers was a central component of this modernization. The panel not only has to withstand extreme stresses from tens of thousands of passengers every day, but also be resistant to vandalism. In addition, operation must be intuitive and accessible for all user groups - including visually impaired people.

Integration of operation for the LX Master Mirror

The challenge:
Mikrona's aim was to develop an operating button that works reliably with gloves, especially wet gloves. The button should have no openings and guarantee 100% functionality.

Solution:
We use our Agnostic Touch solution for use in the dental sector. This means that the button can be reliably triggered even when wet, with wet hands and wet gloves. In this solution, the button is made of plastic and a preset force is required to trigger it when the dental light is switched on.

Special features include a battery standby mode, a two-stage light start (to avoid glare) and a battery sleep mode controlled by a motion sensor. The LEDs are available in three colors, with each color indicating a specific function. When the respective LED is switched on, the light around the button is clearly visible, which not only makes operation easier, but also creates an elegant look.

The design meets the highest hygiene standards - the main button is completely closed. The button has been designed so that it is easy to see, feel and trigger.

The result:
As planned, the HMI interface proves to be an elegant and functional solution in the dental sector. The three different LED colors provide visual feedback and clearly indicate which LED type is currently being used. Thanks to the compact design, the system could also be implemented in a confined space, which was a decisive criterion for the LX Master model.
