Frequently Asked Questions about Components and Sensors

What components and sensors does Algra manufacture? Algra produces a wide range of industrial components and complete custom-made input systems. Our offerings include complete input systems (including fronts, housings, PCBs with firmware, and qualifications), force sensors (Agnostic Sensors / Strain Gauges), piezoelectric elements (for vibration and pressure measurement), aluminum housing parts (high-quality device enclosures), and plastic and die-cast parts (in cooperation with Asian and European manufacturing partners). All components and systems are customer-specific and tailored to application requirements.
What is an Agnostic strain gauge sensor? An Agnostic strain gauge sensor (DMS) is a highly sensitive force sensor that detects the finest mechanical deformations. Algra strain gauge sensors can be mounted directly as SMD components, enabling space-saving integration into electronic assemblies. Even a gentle touch is reliably detected — ideal for touch surfaces, force measurement in industrial applications, and precision scales.
What are piezoelectric elements used for? Piezoelectric elements generate an electrical voltage under mechanical load (direct piezo effect) or deform when voltage is applied (inverse effect). Typical applications include vibration sensing, pressure measurement, ultrasound generation, and actuators in precision applications. The Pizeo keyboards Dynasim and Dynapic have been replaced by Agnostic Touch with significantly improved properties in all aspects. Production of existing products is supported. Algra supplies piezo elements in various geometries and specifications.
Are Algra force sensors SMD-compatible? Our Agnostic sensors are delivered as SMD (Surface-Mount Device) components and can be placed directly onto printed circuit boards using standard pick-and-place machines. This enables automated mass production, compact design, and reliable quality. The sensors are compatible with standard reflow soldering processes. Furthermore, Algra offers comprehensive electronics design and manufacturing services, ranging from prototypes to full series production.
Where do Algra's plastic and die-cast parts come from? For plastic and die-cast parts, Algra works with established manufacturing partners in Asia, and depending on the project type, quantities, and complexity, also utilizes established and qualified European partners. In all cases, Algra controls design, quality assurance, and final finishing in Switzerland. This hybrid model combines competitive manufacturing costs with Swiss quality standards. All components undergo quality inspection before delivery.
