What is an input system (HMI) by Algra? An input system — also called a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) — is the operating interface between humans and machines. Algra designs customer-specific input systems that stand out from mass-produced products: robust keyboards, touch panels, and operating elements made from high-quality materials, engineered for industrial applications in harsh environments. Every solution is individually tailored to the customer's requirements.
Which input system technologies does Algra offer? Algra has long time experience of all existing, widely used input technologies such as PCAP, Capacitive, Membranes and General switches. In addition, Algra carries unique technologies such as Agnostic Touch (force sensor based input) and DYNASENSE (robust membrane keypad for outdoor use). Technology selection depends on environmental conditions, design requirements, and budget.
What is the difference between Agnostic touch and membrane keyboard? Agnostic Touch keyboards uses force sensors which detect a key press even behind solid metal surfaces such as aluminium or stainless steel - ideal for vandal-resistant and hygienic applications. A membrane keypad consists of multiple foil layers with printed graphics and offers the best price-performance ratio for flat keypads, but is less resistant to mechanical influences. Agnostic Touch keyboards suit outdoor areas and high-security applications; membrane keypads suit controlled indoor use.
Which environments are DYNASENSE keypads designed for? DYNASENSE keypads are specifically developed for harsh outdoor conditions. They are all-weather capable and resistant to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical stress. Typical applications include outdoor terminals, public operating stations, agricultural machinery, and industrial outdoor equipment. DYNASENSE is applied to plastic surfaces and enables effortless operation at attractive costs.
What makes Agnostic Touch technology unique? Agnostic Touch is based on highly sensitive force sensors (strain gauges) that detect even the finest mechanical deformations. Even a gentle touch of the surface triggers the button signal — regardless of the surface material. The sensors are mounted directly as SMD components, enabling flexible design and integration. Use cases include glass, metal, and plastic surfaces where conventional capacitive solutions reach their limits.
